Text 9 Aug Jolicloud 1.0: Add a 3G connection

Here’s a short guide on how to add a 3G connection to your Jolicloud computer. I’ll be using the Huawei E182e, but you can use any modem that you have lying around.

Step 1: Insert your 3G modem of choice. (Be sure to remember what USB port you’ll be using, because often when you switch USB ports, the modem won’t be recognized unless you stick with the same port all the time.)

Step 2: After you’ve inserted the modem, you’ll have to wait a minute or so. Click on your Network Manager and when you have a menu option labeled “New Mobile Broadband (GSM) connection” showing (as in the picture above), you’re ready to go. Click that.

Step 3: Now you should have a wizard that looks like the screen shot above and click “Forward” and then select your country from the list that follows. Click “Forward”.

Step 4: You should now be seeing a list of your carriers. Select one and click “Forward”. Up next is the option to choose your billing plan. As we’re working with A1’s mobile internet, I’m going to go with “A1 Breitband”. Click “Forward” to move on to the next window.

Step 5: Review your chosen settings and then click “Apply” if everything is correct.

Step 6: Up next is a prompt to enter the PIN code if your SIM card requires it. Take care of that and then let Jolicloud do the rest. In the future just go into your Network Manager and find the mobile connection there as shown above and connect.

You should now be connected to the Internet via your 3G modem. Happy surfing!
