Text 6 Jan Some of my favorite movies

Had a conversation with someone recently about favorite movies, so I thought I would make a list while I listen to some good tunes.

Comedy

Ace Ventura: Pet Detective - I remember watching this when I was a kid, this movie turned me onto Jim Carrey and the rest of his movies and his comedy. The sequel is also really good. Classic ’90s comedy flick.

Airplane! - One of the classic oldie comedies. Simply golden. A great film with Leslie Nielsen, so if you want to see one of his best performances, check this one out.

Christopher Titus - He has two flicks that I’ve seen, there’s a third one out that I haven’t gotten a chance to get my hands on yet, but his two stand-up films Love is Evol and Normal Rockwell is Bleeding will send you looking for a new pair of underpants if you aren’t wearing Depends.

Down Periscope - I love Kelsey Grammer in this movie. Pure sarcasm the whole way through the movie. Rob Schneider also gives a great performance in this spoof on the United States Navy.

Robin Williams - I can’t decide which of his two stand-up movies, Weapons of Self Destruction and Live on Broadway, is better. The ending of his Broadway show almost gave me a hernia if that’s any indication. They’re both excellent.

Animal House - A classic movie from National Lampoon, the cast is simply all-star. People with star careers at the time of filming and people with huge careers afterwards. It’s about a college frat house that is known for the hottest parties and the crap that the frat brothers get into with the university leadership. Classic.

I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell - The movie made by Tucker Max about Tucker Max. If you’re familiar with his books and his website, you know what I am on about. If not, read The Austin Road Trip and then watch the movie.

Drama

The Terminal - Tom Hanks in a story inspired by a true story. His character is stuck in the JFK international terminal after his country falls into civil war during his flight to the US, making his passport and visa invalid. I went through one period where I watched the movie every day for a week.

Patch Adams - Based on the real person, Patch Adams, it’s about a medical student that wants to revolutionize the medical system in the United States. A very moving movie.

Poolhall Junkies - A movie about a former poolhall hustler and his attempt at trying to live a “normal” life. Lot of funny parts, but it’s not quite a comedy. I can’t really classify it, so I’m putting it into drama.

I’m going to do more movies and genres later on. I think this little list should tide most of you over for a little bit.
